The fat white larval stage of the Cockchafer Beetle is quite destructive to cereal and other grass plant roots. They live in the soil for three or four years and are sometimes called Rookworms as Rooks are said to be particularly fond of adults and larvae. The adult beetles are up to 35mm long and can fly making them a little frightening as they buzz around, usually at dusk in May, but are harmless to humans. The adults are also destructive, feeding on flowers and foliage.
They are usually found in rough grazing or cereal crops and in new gardens. Turning over the soil exposes them to the birds.

Ollonborre (Melolontha melolontha) är en art i skalbaggsfamiljen bladhorningar.
En ollonborre lever i fyra till fem år, under större delen av sitt liv som larv under jorden. Som skalbagge lever den endast efter förpuppningen i cirka tre till fem veckor.
Ollonborrens färger varierar från vitt till brungult med ett brunt huvud. Dess surrande kan bäst beskrivas som en helikopters på stort avstånd.
Honan lägger mellan 80 och 100 ägg. Varje år svärmar ollonborrarna, som kan jämföras till exempel med laxarnas lek, då arvsanlagen förs vidare till nästa generation, och detta gör att ollonborrarna lever i cykler, och med fyra till fem års mellanrum kommer det större svärmar av ollonborrar.
